The word “meditation” is derived from the Latin word meditor, which means to reflect, ponder over, or consider. Meditation originated as a healing and spiritual practice in many parts of the world over 5,000 years ago. Meditation is practiced in cultures all over the world.

Mindfulness training in MBSR has been shown to be effective in reducing stress and stress-related medical conditions such as anxiety, panic attacks, and depression; learning to live with chronic pain; and enhancing quality of life for cancer patients
